# Knowledge base

The knowledge base is the central storage location for general information and documents. Think of manuals, templates and books, for example. This way your participants can easily find all important information (the knowledge base was previously called the library).

The knowledge base is available from a [Plus subscription](https://helpdesk.pluvo.com/nl/article/abonnementen-13wdsw/) onwards.

## Creating a knowledge base

At the top of the menu bar you'll find a book icon. Click on it and you can start creating your knowledge base.

## General settings of the knowledge base

You can give your knowledge base an attractive and professional look by adding an image. To do this, go to the collection settings. There you can choose a preset image or upload your own. You can also change the title and description of your knowledge base. Participants will also see this in the academy when they open the knowledge base.

## Navigating in your knowledge base

At the top of every collection and every article you'll see a context bar with the breadcrumb path. This way you can always see where you are and navigate back to a parent collection or to the knowledge base itself with a single click. On the right side of that bar you'll find the button to edit the collection or article.

## Adding collections

Collections are a group of articles. This lets you group articles together, making them easy to find. Think of a 'in-depth material' or 'extra assignments' collection, for example.

You add a collection via the **+ Collection** button, at the top right above the search bar. You then enter a title and description.

You decide who may see this collection. Under *access for participants from learning journey or group* you open a selector in which you check the desired learning journeys or groups, the same way of working as when linking learning journeys or modules. This way you give all participants of a particular learning journey access, for example, or grant access based on groups you've created.

Ready to make your collection visible to the selected users? Turn on the toggle at 'published' and click save.

## Adding articles

You add articles either separately to the knowledge base or within a collection. Click the **+ Article** button next to the title. You can now adjust the title and description. When you save, you'll end up in the editor. Here you can shape the article exactly the way you want.

The possibilities within an article aren't limited to text. Here you can also embed videos (via YouTube, for example), offer downloads and insert images.

Want to embed your own video? Make sure you've already uploaded it under ['Videos'](https://helpdesk.pluvo.com/nl/article/videos-toevoegen-qssbw7/) in the management section. You copy the video URL you get from there and paste it within the article under the icon for embedding. The image below shows this icon.

Do you already have ready-made embed code (an `<iframe>`) from another service? Then you paste that code directly into the embed field from now on. Pluvo then shows the embed right away, without an intermediate step. Pasting a regular URL still works just as you're used to.

Good to know: you can easily adjust the order of your articles and collections. Click an article and simply drag it to another place.

## Designing your knowledge base

In addition to the content, you also decide for yourself how your knowledge base looks. You set the design separately for each collection and each article, so that everything matches your house style.

### Images per collection and article

Each collection and each article can have two of its own images:

* An **overview image**, which appears on the card in the overview.
* A **header image**, which is shown at the top of the detail page.

You set both via the settings of the collection or article, and you can crop the image right away.

Only set a header image? Then Pluvo automatically uses it on the card in the overview as well. That way your knowledge base looks complete without you having to upload an image twice. Want to show a different image in the overview, for example a crop that works better at a smaller size? Then set an overview image after all. It always takes precedence. Without either image, no image is shown.

### Setting the title color

For each collection and each article you choose your own title color. This way you give components a recognizable accent or have them match a theme. If you don't set a color, the title falls back to the default color of your knowledge base.

### Featuring an article on the homepage

Want to give an article extra attention? Then mark it as **featured**. Featured articles appear on the homepage of the academy, so that learners see them right away. If you remove the marking, the article disappears from the homepage again.
